DIY: leather notebook

I’m not the only one in the family with a love for DIY’s. My sister and I grew up with parents pretty much making everything themselves, from huge home renovating projects to clothing and jewelry. I remember getting a miniature bunk bed for my dolls. My dad made the bed from wood and my mom made the blankets and pillows. I absolutely adored it!

But after doing DIY’s every week for almost 2 years, my ideas and enthusiasm died out a little. It’s hard you guys! Thinking and making something new every week. That’s why I asked my little sis to help me out. She is just as handy, but has way more (way more…) patience than I do. She made this gorgeous minimal notebook out of some leather she had lying around and (thick) paper.

I guess the love for notebooks is universal (my love for them is going strong as well), so I decided to fix this super easy DIY. Get the necessary materials and equipment and within 7 steps you’re done!

All you need is:

  • Sheets of thick paper (I used 8)
  • Leather
  • Leather cord
  • Rope
  • Hole puncher
  • Box cutter
  • Scissors / paper cutter
  • Glue

Here are the steps:

  • Cut the paper in the right size and fold them in two.
  • Punch two holes in the folding crease of the paper, so you can tie it to the leather.
  • Cut the leather, make sure you cut it big enough so you have a flap that also covers the front.
  • Put the paper in the leather cover, find the holes and mark them on the leather. Then punch two holes in the leather.
  • Put the rope through the holes and tie the two ends together (I tied them on the inside of the notebook).
  • Make two cuts in the leather where you want to put the leather cord. Put the cord through the cuts and glue it to te inside of the cover.
  • Now wrap the cord around the notebook and your project is done!
